Kiezentdecker - Welcome to Steglitz-Zehlendorf

Seminar Girlsland

The 19 girls aged between 9 and 14 worked on possibilities for women in the neighbourhood and women stories there. They concerned themselves with role models from the past or the present, as well as role models from other cultures. Some gender stereotypes and prejudices were critically analysed.

First of all, they rediscovered their environment through a rally. They spoke about what institutions should offer in order to be qualified as „suitable for women“(E.g. nice rest rooms, enough toilets, possibilities to meet among girls

only). And which places are missing, according to young women? A girl centre! Girls met the contemporary witness, Mrs Regel, who could tell how green and rural Steglitz had been until the 50s. The girls found interesting that at that time, girls and boys were separated at school and that children used to do without phones or television. The girls drafted coats of arms for Steglitz-Zehlendorf, which you can see under Extras.
